Norwegian oil history The smell of oil - the smell of money. The Norwegian oil adventure that began in the 1960s has made the country rich. In one of the greatest documentary series produced for the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation television shows how a nation almost without any knowledge of oil production has evolved to become an oil superpower technology - and a huge financial success. Through five episodes recounted how one of the most important industrial sectors in Norwegian history has evolved from the 1960s to the present day. Norway was a country without knowledge of oil and gas when international oil giants in 1962 wanted to exploration in the North Sea. But since the first oil discovery on Ekofisk in 1969, Norway established a position as technological and economic power, largely because of the huge revenues from the seabed on the Norwegian continental shelf.
