With nearly a quarter of British households owning a dog, they are the nation’s favourite pet - but this isn't always reflected in the way some are treated. Here we follow the RSPCA officers who, committed to the rescue and welfare of man's best friend, are tasked with investigating reports of cruelty and neglect.

In Bristol, the programme catches up with a dog the RSPCA visited last year. Sasha was having trouble shedding excess pounds and is still struggling 12 months later. In Luton, inspector Stephanie visits a disobedient Japanese akita called Rex who is running circles around his owner.|

Sue notices a staffie in her care, is brilliant at fetching items and wonders if he has a future as a police dog. Emma and the police work together to raid an illegal puppy farm. Plus a catch-up with Elsie the dalmatian featured in the last series.|

In London, Annie visits a house were a Staffie has had a litter of puppies that are been kept in unsuitable conditions. A owner surrenders a malnourished labrador. Plus a look back on emaciated ridgebacks Carla and Dudley who were found on the show last year, Dudley never survived but we catch up with Carla in her new home.|
|S02E07||Episode 7||15/07/2014||This time, an elderly staffie is involved in a fight with a pitbull and the inspectors have a job on their hands trying to round them up in order to treat them. In Liverpool, Anthony Joynes investigates a complaint about some English bulldogs that may have been abandoned and the programme revisits Bella, a dog who had to have her leg amputated.|
|S02E08||Episode 8||22/07/2014||In this episode, Annie is called to the scene of a fight involving three dogs that has left one, a husky called Oslo, in need of medical care, Jayne unearths a distressing case in the back garden of a house and Natalie helps an amorous bullmastiff called Romeo find love. And we see how a shih tzu called Maggie helps children with learning difficulties improve their reading skills.|
|S02E09||Episode 9||29/07/2014||After a suspected puppy-trafficking ring is busted, some of the puppies are discovered to be suffering from a deadly virus. A sheepdog trainer tries to cure a collie's lack of confidence. Residents complain about a man living with too many huskies. A Maltese terrier cross is abandoned on the roof of a takeaway shop. Some tiny, shivering puppies are found stuffed into suitcases.|
|S02E10||Episode 10||05/08/2014||An abandoned and painfully thin Labrador puppy is rescued from a filthy house, an Alaskan Malamute needs a new home, three female Staffies are found in a tiny cage to keep them away from an amarous male and the hunt is on to find the owner of a chilly Chihuahua puppy locked up in a car. Plus a deaf American bulldog puppy who is learning sign language and an update on the two collies rescued in Wales in the last series.|
|S02E11||Episode 11||12/08/2014||A Belgian shepherd is found in such an emaciated condition that she is close to death. A visit to check on Tyson the husky finds the owner absent and the dog surrounded by two weeks' worth of mess. An unruly Leonberger cross is sent back to the RSPCA for training. A Jack Russell needs a haircut. Plus, a catch up on the semi-feral collies found in a filthy house and on Ace the staffie, who was found abandoned and tied up to a park bench in Derby.|
|S02E12||Episode 12||19/08/2014||This last episode of the second series sees Merseyside-based inspector Anthony Joynes travelling to Malawi to work with his counterparts in Lilongwe, where he helps to rescue two puppies from a roadside seller and a stray dog riddled with disease. Back in the UK, inspector Graeme Petty responds to a call about two dogs who have been left outside for a long time and must make a tough decision when the owner returns home. Plus, the programme catches up with Susie, a feral dog rescued by inspector Vicki McDonald, who is now happily living with her new owners.|
