The World from Above is a unique continuing series of aerial programmes offering an entirely different view of the world. From 10,000ft, down to just a few feet the stabilised high definition aerial camera seeks out the beautiful, as well as the dramatic, on journeys across very different parts of the world including Europe, Africa and the United States.

S02E01 Les côtes de la Nouvelle-Angleterre 00/00/0000 This journey begins at the Isles of Shoals off the Maine coast before crossing to the mainland and the harbour town of Kittery. From there the journey heads north-east up the coast past small harbours and rivers to Kennebunkport and the summer home of a presidential family. Continuing up the coast past islands and lighthouses are the harbour and city of Portland and in the large bay to the north are the Calendar Islands and Brunswick, home to one of the best known 19th century writers. Our journey ends at the nearby historic shipyard of Bath.
S02E02 Sous le soleil Andalou 00/00/0000 This journey begins at Seville, the capital of the Andalusia region. We then head south towards the coast and the ancient harbour city of Cadiz. From there it is east to the rocky peninsula of Gibraltar, before turning north up the Costa del Sol to the resort towns of Marbella and then Fuengirola. Inland from the coast is the hilltop village of Alora with its white washed houses standing out against the arid landscape. From there it's just a short distance to the spectacular rock formations in the El Torcal Park.
S02E03 Au Danemark, d'île en île 00/00/0000 This journey begins at Kalundborg on the west side of Zealand before heading south along the coast to the Great Belt Bridge and on to the island of Tasinge. From there it is north to Odense and the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, before turning west to Jutland and Billund, the home of Lego. From there it is up the coast to a royal palace at Aarhus and then on to Ebeltoft and its historic ship. Inland we fly over the vast Limfjord before turning north to the very tip of Denmark at Skagen.
S02E04 Les Iles Anglo-Normandes 00/00/0000 This journey begins crossing the English Channel, one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world, before arriving at the Channel Islands. The first is Alderney, which were once the world's most fortified islands. From there it's south, past dangerous rocks on the Casquets, to Guernsey, the second largest island in the group, with its capital St Peter Port on the east coast. Continuing east, and past small islands, is Sark, still home to ancient laws and parliament. And between Sark and the French coast is Jersey, and its capital St Hellier. This journey ends on the low lying, and very dangerous rocks, of the Minquiers, known as the Minkies.
S02E05 De Vérone à Venise 00/00/0000 This journey begins in northern Italy at Verona, the city of Romeo and Juliet before heading east past vineyards and castles to the cultural jewel of Padua. From there it is east along the Brenta canal to the Venetian Lagoon and Venice, one of the one most famous cities in the world, which has stood for over 1,500 years. North of the city are the southern foothills of the Alps and a whole series of historic villas around Asolo. The journey ends at Vicenza, the home of one of the greatest late renaissance architects, whose buildings in the city have influenced architecture around the world for centuries.
S02E06 Spain - Mallorca 00/00/0000 This journey begins as we approach the south west corner of Mallorca and then on to Palma the capital of the island. From there we head north into the mountains and along the coast to the hilltop village of Deia and then on to the monastery at Luc. Following the dramatic coastline we pass the resort of Cala San Vincente before arriving at the lighthouse on the Cap de Formentor. In the bay to the east we take a look at the resort town of Puerto Pollenca and then head east along the coast to Cala Rajada. We fly south to Portochristo before heading inland to three historic mountain monasteries at Randa. This journey around Mallorca ends back at Palma and a glorious sunset.
S02E07 USA - South Dakota - Spearfish to Mount Rushmore 00/00/0000 This journey begins in the open grassland around Spearfish on the west side of the state before heading south into the Black Hills National Forest and the cowboy town of Deadwood with its surrounding goldmines. At Sturgis we look at the National Military Cemetery, as well as Fort Meade, which has a history stretching back to the early 19th century. To the south is Rapid City, the second largest conurbation in South Dakota, and a centre for tourism, because nearby is one of the most popular attractions in the whole of the United States, Mount Rushmore, with its four president's faces carved into the mountain top.
S02E08 USA - Virginia - Williamsburg to Assateague Island 00/00/0000 This journey starts at the historic town of Williamsburg before moving on to the James River and the plantation houses along its banks. Downstream is Jamestown, where early English settlers arrived in the 17th century. From there, to the important historical site of Yorktown and the English surrender to George Washington at the end of the War of Independence. To the south is Hampton and the enormous Fort Munroe. Across the estuary is Norfolk, the largest naval base in the world. On the coast is the popular resort of Virginia Beach, overlooking the entrance to Chesapeake Bay. This journey ends along the wild Peninsula of creeks and marshes at Assateague Island and its wild horses.
S02E09 L'Ecosse, d'est en ouest 00/00/0000 This spectacular coast to coast journey starts in the south-east of Scotland, at the oldest golf club in the world. From Edinburgh, we follow the Forth river upstream to the historic Forth Bridge.
S02E10 USA - South Carolina - Myrtle Beach to Strom Thurmond Lake 00/00/0000 This journey begins at Myrtle Beach in the north-east corner of the state where we follow the resort coastline before turning inland across forest and farmland towards one of America's best known road houses - South of the Border. From there we fly to the Congaree National Park, and neighbouring Columbia, the capital of South Carolina. Along the north of the state towards Greenville new industries have replaced what was once the centre for cotton manufacture. Then it is on to Table Rock State Park before heading south-west along the edge of the Appalachian Mountains to Lake Keowee. From there we take a look at Woodburn Plantation, an historic fort at Ninety Six before ending the journey at the beautiful Strom Thurmond Lake.
S02E11 Ireland - Mizzen Head to Powerscourt 00/00/0000 This journey begins at Mizen Head in the south-west corner of Ireland. It then follows the rugged coastline past towers and lighthouses before turning inland to the world-famous Blarney Castle, where kissing a stone is said to bring luck. To the south is Cork, the second largest city in the republic, which sits at the head of one of the world's largest natural harbours. Inland and across the Knockmealdown Mountains are a remarkable group of medieval buildings and abbey on the Rock of Cashel. The journey continues south-east down the River Suir to Waterford, once the home of crystal glassmaking. Along the coast is Wexford, where a turn north towards the Wicklow Mountains leads to the final destination, at one of Ireland's most beautiful estates: Powerscourt.
S02E12 France - Saint Nazaire to Vaux-le-Vicomte 00/00/0000 Some of the palaces we will see a enormous, and built over 400 years ago. Many of the castles date back even further in time
S02E13 Germany - Bayreuth to Munich 00/00/0000 This journey crosses part of Bavaria, the largest of Germany's 16 states. Flying over forests and farmlands we find Bayreuth, the home of Wagner's grand operas. We travel to historic Nuremberg, the city that witnessed both the rise and fall of the Nazis. Then it's east along one of the greatest waterways in the world, the Danube. On its banks is Walhalle, Germany's answer to Athens' Parthonon. Close to the Austrian border is the sleepy village of Marktl, birthplace of Pope Benedict the sixteenth. We finally arrive at Munich, in time to join the biggest beer festival in the world, Oktoberfest.
S02E14 Belgium - Bouillon to Brussels 00/00/0000 The journey starts in one of the most picturesque regions of Belgium. From Bouillon on the south-east corner of the country, we follow the Semois River through the Ardenne Forest. Along the way, we find the medieval town of Dinant, home to a famous beer once brewed by monks. The highest boat lift in the world is near great 19th century industrial town of Charleroi. Its canal network extends north towards one of the most important battlegrounds in European history - Waterloo. From here it's a short distance to Brussels, the capital of belgium and headquarters of the European Union.
S03E01 La Sicilie et les Iles Eoliennes 00/00/0000 This journey begins at the volcanic island of Stromboli before joining Sicily's northern coast where we head west past hill top villages to Cefalu and its ancient cathedral. From there we continue to the island's capital city - Palermo. Inland to the south west is one of many ancient Greek archaeological sites on the island at Segesta. Back on the coast in the north west corner is the city and harbour town of Trapani and nearby a magnificent hill top town and castle. From there we head south across vineyards to the coast at Triscina and our final location - the ancient Greek ruins at Selinunte.
S03E02 Scotland - Stirling to Cawdor Castle 00/00/0000 This journey starts at the historic city of Stirling in the southern lowlands of Scotland. Then head towards the university town of St Andrews and its famous golf course. Along the dramatic coastline with its red cliffs is the mighty 10th-century Dunnotar Castle. At Aberdeen, turn inland toward the Cairngorm National Park, home to some of the highest peaks in Scotland. It's also where you'll find Balmoral Castle, the summer residence of the British Royal Family. Passing through Scotland's biggest whisky-producing region, the journey ends at Cawdor Castle, famous for its link with Shakespeare's tragedy Macbeth.
S03E03 Les Iles Baléares 00/00/0000 This journey starts on the east coast of Formentera, a tiny Mediterranean island renowned for its peaceful white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters and nude sunbathing. A short stretch of water separates Formentera with its larger sister island, Ibiza - the destination for millions of young tourists keen to enjoy its famed nightlife. From the second largest town, San Antonio, follow the spectacular coastline to Ibiza's northernmost point, the lighthouse at Portinatx. Following a string of holiday resorts, the journey ends at the island's historic capital, Ibiza Town.
S03E04 USA - South Carolina - Mepkin Abbey to Hilton Head Island 00/00/0000 This journey begins at Mepkin Abbey on the Cooper River before heading east to the Historic Hampton Plantation and then on to the coast, where it follows marshland and inlets before flying over the enormous Francis Marion National Forest. To the south is a large natural harbour and Fort Sumter, a key stronghold during the American Civil War. And overlooking the bay is one of the most beautiful cities in South Carolina: Charleston. Inland, discover the beautiful gardens at Middleton Place before turning south to Kiawah Island and its world-famous golf courses. On Parris Island the US Marines have their training camp for new recruits. And the journey ends on the sandy beaches of Hilton Head Island.
S03E05 Splendeurs du Pays de Galles 00/00/0000 The journey starts in the heart of North Wales, at the historic town of Ruthin. From the ruins of the medieval Denbigh Castle, fly along the golden beaches and resort towns of the north coast. At Conway Bay, fly south-west and past the largest slate quarry in Wales before heading towards the Menai Strait, a narrow sea channel that separates the Isle of Anglesea from the mainland. From Caernarvon Castle, the ceremonial seat of the Prince of Wales, the journey ends with a spectacular flight through the mountains and valleys of Snowdonia, finishing at the highest peak in Wales, Mount Snowdon.
S03E06 Le Portugal 00/00/0000 This journey begins towards the middle of Portugal at Linhares Castle, before heading south west towards the beautiful city of Coimbra and its ancient university. From there we look at two spectacular monasteries at Batalha and Tomar before heading for the coast at the resort town of Nazare. Just inland to the south is the striking walled town of Obidos and its castle. Back on the coast are the dramatic cliffs of Cabo de Roca. Following the coastline we take a look at a series of resort towns and glorious beaches including Cascais and Oeiras before entering the River Tagus and our final destination - Lisbon - the capital of Portugal.
S03E07 USA - Delaware - Wilmington to Rehoboth 00/00/0000 This journey begins in the north of the state at the Winterthur Museum before heading south towards Wilmington, the largest city in Delaware. From there, follow the river to New Castle and it historic houses. To the south is Pea Patch Island and Fort Delaware, protecting the approach to the capital. Inland at Newark is the University of Delaware. Continuing south is Dover and the International Speedway Track, as well as a large US Airforce Base. Turning towards the coast, take a look at the flocks of migrating birds heading south for the winter. At Lewes the ferries come and go across Delaware Bay to New Jersey, and just outside the town is Henlopen State Park and some military relics from World War II. This journey ends at the popular shopping and seaside resort of Rehoboth.

S03E09 Germany - Plauen to Konigstein Castle 00/00/0000 This journey begins at the southern reaches of Saxony heading toward the historic city of Leipzig. It's then on to Colditz Castle, the infamous World War II prison. To the south lie the Ore Mountains, whose silver deposits once brought great wealth to the town of Freiberg. Joining the great River Elbe at Meissen, follow it upstream to the capital of Saxony, Dresden. From the splendid Baroque gardens at Gross Sedlitz, head to Saxon Switzerland National Park that so inspired the German romantic painters. The journey ends at the biggest mountain fortress in Europe, Konigstein Castle.

S03E12 Italy - The Straits of Messina to the Bay of Naples 00/00/0000 This journey begins at the Straits of Messina before heading north up the coast to the resort town of Tropea. Continuing north past a striking coastline and hill top villages we come to Paestum, one of the greatest Greek archaeological sites of the ancient world. Further north we take a dramatic dawn flight around the Amalfi coastline, the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius, and then explore the ancient Roman town of Pompeii. On the north side of the bay, after a closer look at Vesuvius we pass the crowded city and port of Naples. Flying west along the coast is the beautiful Island of Ischia. This journey ends at sunset on the other side of the bay over the island of Capri and a look at a Roman Emperor's summer villa.
